Kangwon Tourism College, always a step ahead of the future

Our college has been emerging as one of the most renowned tourism institutions in the Republic of Korea. We have played an essential role in the training of those who are to serve in the booming tourism industry, as well as other fields domestically and internationally.

The Kangwon Tourism College is dedicated to specialized programs focusing on the tourism and casino industries. It is situated in Taebaek City, a highland sports and leisure town found on the highest area above sea level in our country. Our location boasts cool summers and winter climates perfect for skiing and snowboarding. Taebaek is an environment-friendly city that promises unlimited development potential driven by a young, vibrant energy.

The history of Kangwon Tourism College is as follows:

• In March 1995, Mr. Hoo Yeon Choi founded Kangwon Tourism College under the ideals of Christian love and service, inaugurating Dr. Jae Hee Won as the first president.

• In May 2001, the college established a collaborative relationship with Taebaek City.

• In August 2001, a similar relationship was established with Kangwon Land Casino, a hotel resort known for its excellent gaming facilities, which was our country's first sort of casino to allow the admission of Koreans. Kangwon Land was constructed under the 'Special Law for the Support for the Development of Abandoned Mining Regions,' which the congress passed in 1995 for the purpose of bringing new life to the economy of such regions.

• In December 2010, Dr. Jae Hee Won was inaugurated again as the first chancellor.

• As of 2014, the college has fourteen departments with an enrollment of over 1,500 students. To provide the best education we can, we work together with three affiliated organizations and five affiliated research institutes such as the Kangwon Culture and Tourism Research Institute and the Culinary Science Research Institute. Our faculty and student body are all enthusiastic to achieve their goals.
